Data Engineer

You will build and operate the data pipelines, warehouses and infrastructure that turn raw data into analytics United States and Canadian clients can act on, from our Medellín hub.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain data pipelines for ingestion, transformation and delivery
  • Build and optimise data warehouses and models for analytics and reporting
  • Ensure data quality, reliability and observability across pipelines
  • Implement and maintain orchestration: Airflow, dbt or equivalent
  • Work with client analysts and stakeholders to translate needs into data infrastructure
  • Optimise query performance and manage data platform cost
  • Implement data governance, lineage and security controls appropriate to the data
  • Participate live in the client's engineering and analytics ceremonies
  • Document pipelines, models and runbooks to a standard the client team can operate
  • Deliver against knowledge transfer milestones so the client retains capability
  • Diagnose and resolve data incidents in the areas you own

Requirements

  • Native or equivalent Spanish
  • English at CEFR B2 or above, assessed before offer, as the role is client-facing
  • Four or more years in data engineering or a closely related role
  • Strong SQL and proficiency in Python or a comparable language
  • Hands-on experience with a modern data stack: warehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift), transformation (dbt), orchestration (Airflow)
  • Experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Understanding of data modelling, warehousing and pipeline design
  • University degree in computer science, engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Availability to work onsite in Medellín two days per week
  • Valid Colombian ID or work permit

Preferred

  • Streaming and real-time data experience: Kafka, Spark
  • Infrastructure as code: Terraform
  • Data governance and quality tooling experience
  • Experience in a regulated data environment
  • English at C1
  • Diaspora engineers returning from abroad are strongly encouraged to apply
