QA Automation Engineer

Building automated test suites for United States and Canadian software clients from Medellín, on the same clock as their engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain automated test suites across UI, API and integration layers
  • Diagnose and eliminate test flakiness, treating suite reliability as a first-order objective
  • Prioritise coverage expansion by production incident history and code churn rather than by module
  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and optimise pipeline runtime
  • Build and maintain test data management and environment provisioning for test execution
  • Participate in client standups, sprint planning, refinement and retrospectives as an embedded team member
  • Perform exploratory and manual testing where automation is not appropriate
  • Investigate escaped production defects, identify the coverage gap and close it
  • Contribute to progressive delivery infrastructure including feature flagging and canary release verification
  • Author and maintain test documentation and runbooks to a standard the client team can operate independently
  • Deliver against defined knowledge transfer milestones so the client retains capability
  • Mentor junior engineers on the account
  • Participate in code review for test code with the same rigour applied to production code

Requirements

  • English at CEFR C1, assessed before offer. This role is client-facing and conducted primarily in English.
  • Native or fluent Spanish
  • Three or more years in software quality engineering with a substantial automation component
  • Strong proficiency in at least one of: TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java
  • Hands-on experience with modern test frameworks: Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, Jest, Pytest or equivalent
  • Experience with API testing and tooling: Postman, REST Assured, supertest or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, ideally GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Jenkins
  • Comfort with Git and trunk-based or feature-branch workflows
  • University degree in computer science, software engineering, systems engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • Availability to work onsite in Medellín three days per week
  • Valid Colombian ID or work permit

Preferred

  • Experience with performance testing: k6, JMeter, Gatling
  • Experience with contract testing: Pact or equivalent
  • Cloud platform familiarity: AWS, Azure or GCP
  • Containerisation: Docker, Kubernetes
  • Observability tooling: Datadog, New Relic, Grafana
  • ISTQB certification or equivalent
  • Prior experience embedded in a distributed engineering team across time zones
  • Colombian and Latin American diaspora engineers returning from the United States, Canada or Spain are strongly encouraged to apply
